How to Use Your Fave Sports Team Colors In Photoshop

Are you planning on designing signs or printing some shirts to represent your favorite sports team? Getting ready for the playoffs and want to show off some team spirit in a creative way?

Using Adobe Photoshop, you can design every detail and use your favorite sports team colors in any number of designs.

Let’s walk through the Photoshop techniques needed to use your team’s colors in your next big project!

1. Know Your Sports Team Colors

If you have pro level design abilities, maybe you already know the exact colors of your favorite team’s logo.

If not, here are two quick ways to find out.

Outside of Photoshop, you can use the Eye Dropper extension for Google Chrome to pick out the colors from any image online. Simply search for your favorite team’s logo on Google, select the eye dropper from your browser extensions, and click each color in the logo.

Be sure to note the HTML color code to insert in Photoshop later. If you don’t have the eyedropper, you can use a similar process within Photoshop itself, as well.

Simply import your team logo as a layer and use the Eyedropper tool to select the colors that you want to use. Then, hide the logo layer as you work on your design.

2. Color Replacement

Let’s say you’ve got a family photo and you want to change the colors of the t-shirts you’re wearing to your favorite sports team colors. You’ve already got your team colors picked out from the first step, all you have to do next is use the Color Replacement Tool.

Drag it over the area of your image that you want to change. Photoshop will sample the color in the crosshair and replace it with your current foreground color, which should be your team’s.

3. Knock Out The Background

As an example of design in action, imagine you have Miami Heat tickets for an upcoming game. You’ve got an awesome design put together with the Heat’s signature red, black, and yellow colors.

You want to print this design on a black t-shirt, but realize that you left a white background in the image. With Photoshop, you can use the Background Eraser tool to quickly turn that white background transparent and have the design ready to print!

The Sky is the Limit!

Now that you’ve got these Photoshop techniques under your belt, you can choose whatever sports team colors you need and use them in your own designs.

When it comes to design, you can get creative. Use your home team’s colors in decorations for a party, print off iron-on transfers for custom t-shirts, or customize logos for mugs, pint glasses, and other gifts.

Use caution, though! Sports fans tend to get a little territorial when it comes to their favorite teams, so you don’t want to end up reversing rival colors!
